Lorraine Martin was Lydia Martin's paternal grandmother and a woman unaware that she was a Banshee that was eventually committed to and died at Eichen House.
While she had a strained relationship with her son, she and her daughter-in-law Natalie Martin had a positive one. However, Lorraine would enjoy a special bond with Lydia. When Lydia was young, they would read The Little Mermaid and Lydia insisted on being called "Ariel" after the book's main character. She thought it cute even though it drove the parents crazy.
She is portrayed by an unknown actor in Perishable while Marcy Goldman portrayed her in the Season 5 episode Required Reading.
Biography[]
Decades before starting a family, Lorraine worked for IBM in San Francisco and was in love with a woman named Maddy, an award winning yacht captain. One day she had a premonition that Maddy was going to die during a storm on the lake and let out a scream. Maddy dismissed the warning and drowned while out on the lake.
Lorraine began to dive into the supernatural to find out why and how she knew Maddy was going to die before it happened. Despite building a study with pseudo-scientific properties with parapsychologists at her lake house and looking into the occult, she could not find answers for the phenomenon. Everything changed when she found Meredith Walker, a girl who shared similar peculiarities.
While doing an experiment with the Meredith, the girl suffered a seizure from the voices she heard on the record player and was sent to the hospital and Lorraine was deemed insane and sent to Eichen House.
While there, Lorraine would receive more premonitions such as the Dread Doctors coming to Beacon Hills after drilling a hole in her head, and her own demise at the hands of Brunski. As the orderly slowly killed her, she begged him not to hurt "Ariel" which would bother him for years.
She was supposedly cremated but her urn was filled with Mountain Ash and gave instructions for Lydia to spread it on the property on her 18th birthday. (Time of Death)
