Magic Bullet is the fourth episode of Teen Wolf. It includes the first appears of Kate Argent, a primary antagonist in the rest of Season 1 and in Season 4. Magic Bullet also marks the first appearance of weaponized wolfsbane, a new variety of wolfsbane, and showcases several effects of wolfsbane positioning on werewolves.

Synopsis[]

Kate Argent arrives in town and is attacked by the Alpha. While fighting it off, she shoots Derek. Now, Scott has to make it through an awkward family dinner with the Argents to get a bullet to save him, while Stiles and Derek attempt to slow the effects of the wound.

Recap[]

Kate Argent is driving down a dark road at night, listening to the radio. After hearing a news report of "animal attacks plaguing Beacon Hills, she chuckles and switches to a station playing music.

As she drives, a large, dark wolf-like creature with glowing red eyes can be seen through the drivers-side window pacing her SUV.

Kate doesn't see the werewolf, but seems to perceive something is following her. She checks her mirrors and looks out the back. Distracted by this, she's forced to brake quickly to avoid hitting a pickup truck pulling out in front of her in the Beacon Hills Warehouse District. She chides herself for her "nice driving" just before something strikes the roof of the vehicle.

As she reaches for a gun, a clawed hand breaks the drivers-side window, tangles in Kate's hair, grabs her arm and tries to pull her from the vehicle. She manages to grab her sawed-off shotgun and fire once through the roof of the SUV. The creature grunts and flees.

Kate rolls out the passenger door and lands in a warrior crouch with the gun poised. She's familiar with weapons and combat. Kate challenges the creature to "Come on!." It does not oblige.

At the McCall House, Scott is asleep but awakes to gunfire. A wolf howl brings him fully awake. He quickly dresses and heads out.

Back on the street, Kate retrieves a sophisticated, scope-equipped rifle from the back of her vehicle. She has a well stocked arsenal with three pistols and several hand grenades visible. She's also well supplied with ammunition, dozens of rounds in the different calibers. She picks up a wooden box with an image of a flowering plant burned into its surface. There are several bullets tucked inside.

At the Argent House, Chris Argent explains to Allison that he's heading out to pick up Kate due to "car trouble", a "flat tire".

Derek Hale finds blood on the ground. He is also in the Warehouse District searching for the mysterious Alpha Werewolf who killed his sister. He hears a heavy heartbeat, focuses in on the sound and sees a large creature on a nearby roof. It flees as Derek spots it, climbing up the brick façade to a higher level roof above.

Derek gives chase, tracking it from the ground for a while before climbing up the side of another intersecting building in hopes of catching it on the roof. As he leaps between buildings, Kate fires her rifle hitting Derek in the arm and knocking him out of the sky. He falls hard on his back, rolls off a raised concrete abutment and lands hard again on the ground below.

Out of breath, Derek manages to rise and stumble away.

Chris arrives and asks his sister to put the rifle away before someone notices. Kate informs him that there were "two of them". Scott arrives and overhears their conversation. Chris asks if it was "the Alpha". She says she doesn't know but that she hit one of them. Chris says he needs one to lead them to the other and can't do that if Kate kills one. Kate says she can't help kill either of them if one of them kills her first. Chris asks, "How long will it take?" She says, "I give him 48 hours, if that."

The next day, Allison is ecstatic that her aunt has come to visit.

A very pale and sick-looking Derek goes to the high school and asks Jackson where he can find Scott. Jackson assumes that Derek is Scott’s drug dealer and is snide. Derek begins to lose control of his abilities, accidentally sinking his claws into Jackson’s neck.

He then overhears Allison and Lydia’s conversation about Scott. He manages to find Stiles in his jeep and blocks traffic to get him to stop before Derek collapses in the road.

Scott, noticing that Derek is weak, helps him into the car. Derek instructs Scott to go to Allison’s house and find the special bullet that he was shot with.

Scott arrives at Allison’s house to study. Allison begins to kiss Scott, triggering sexual arousal which causes Scott to begin shifting. A call from Stiles interrupts, and Scott notices all of Allison’s past hobbies. When Scott asks what she is good at, she takes him into the garage to show him her archery bow. Scott notices all of the guns her father keeps and she reveals that her father is an arms dealer to the police.

They begin kissing again when Allison’s father walks in and catches them. He is about to send Scott home, but Kate invites him to stay for dinner. Mr. Argent offers him alcohol in an attempt to see whether or not he will drink it, but Scott manages to give a parent-friendly answer.

After an urgent call from Stiles, Scott continues his mission to find the bullet. He tries a locked door but is discovered by Kate. He claims he is looking for the bathroom, and she points him to the guest bedroom where she is staying. In that room is Kate’s bag, where he finds a box of bullets labeled “Aconit Napel Bleu Nordique” which translates to Nordic Blue Monkshood. Derek says Scott must bring him one of the bullets, in order to heal himself. Scott is ready to leave but Kate insists that he stays for dessert.

After discussing the recent animal attacks, Chris and his wife tell Scott a story about a rabid dog that had to be put down by Allison’s grandfather. After dinner Scott is accused of taking something from Kate’s bag. After being asked to empty his pockets, Allison confesses to taking a condom, much to everyone’s surprise.

Scott manages to get the bullet to Derek before Stiles has to amputate his arm. When Scott asks what Derek is going to do with the bullet, Derek faints, and the bullet slips out of his hands and into a hole in the ground. Scott retrieves the bullet by growing claws while Stiles frantically tries to wake Derek up. After Derek is up off the ground and has the bullet, he burns the wolfsbane and rubs the ashes into the wound, allowing him to heal.

An argument ensues. Scott claims the Argents are nicer to him than Derek is and doesn't understand why he should stay away from them. In response, Derek takes Scott to a long-term care facility to see his comatose uncle, Peter Hale.

Peter sits unresponsive as Derek explains about the Hale House Arson. Derek says that the house caught fire six years ago while he and his sister were at school. The fire trapped 11 people inside with Peter being (believed to be) the only survivor.

Derek says he knows the Argents did it because they were the only ones that knew the Hales were werewolves. Scott believes this gave the Argents a reason. Derek becomes even more upset. He spins his uncle's chair reveling one half of his face is obscured by heavy burn scars.

Derek claims the Argents are suppose to follow a code, only kill adults and only if they have absolute proof. But he explains that there were people within the Hale family "that were perfectly ordinary". Derek says killing innocents is just the kind of thing Argents do and what Allison will someday do as well.

Later, Allison becomes more suspicious of her family. Meanwhile, Kate and Chris have a conversation revealing that they know Derek is not The Alpha and suspect that there may be another. Kate plans to kill them all but Chris says that they must do it by the code. Kate lights a fire insinuating that she is the one who burned down the Hale house against the code and without the others knowing.
