Although native to Dundee, Scotland, Brand lived in East Africa when he had spent nine years in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. He experienced film for the first time in a drive-in cinema in Kenya.
His first television role came from The Darling Buds of Mary where he played Tom Sargent for four episodes in 1993.
He got further recognition the long running BBC medical drama Casualty as Adam Cooke from 1994 to 1995.
He became known for voicing Alexander Anderson in English dubbing of Hellsing. He would later reprise the role in Hellsing Ultimate.
He made his American debut, in 2002, with the release of The Scorpion King as the warlord Memnon. He constantly worked in British theatre and television before being invited for a screen test.
The following year, Brand also landed the role of John Rimbauer in a TV adaptation of Stephen King's Diary of Ellen Rimbauer, the prequel to Rose Red.
Since then, he had parts in films like Treasure Raiders (2006) with David Carradine, Say It In Russian (2006) with Faye Dunaway, XII (2007), and Saving Lincoln (2013).
His television credits include CSI, NCIS, The Mistress, NCIS: Los Angles, and Samurai Girl where he portrayed Severin.
