Teen Wolf Behind the Scenes
Locations 1-6
We’re now six episodes into Season 3 (Season 3A according to the production staff) and we’ve already been all over Southern California as various locations stand in for Beacon Hills.
Locations in Tattoo
Most of Tattoo was filmed in Teen Wolf’s Northridge, California HQ. The school hallway and Ms. Blake’s classroom along with all the Hospital corridors and rooms are special built sets inside a giant warehouse.
They did use some outdoor locations for the Isaac chase scene but most of that was green screen – that is actors standing in the studio with a background added later by computer. They also used green screen for the scene with Lydia, Allison and the Deer.
They did go on location for part of those scenes - they used a lonely road in Woodley Park in Van Nuys, California and visited Paramount Studios for some of the “streets of Beacon Hills” scenes.
Locations in Chaos Rising
Heather’s house in Chaos Rising is a real home on a suburban street in Encino, California. Her wine cellar was a purpose built set at Teen Wolf HQ. Most of the scenes at school were shot on that set in Northridge as were all of the scenes inside Derek’s loft.
The outside of Derek’s loft is this this building in downtown Los Angeles.
You can see they’ve added Derek’s big loft window with computer graphics to the building in the middle.
All of the scenes inside the Vet Clinic are done at the Teen Wolf’s Northridge, California Studios.
It’s also in this episode that we get our first real good look at the new Beacon Hills High School as shot at Palisades Charter High School in Pacific Palisades, California over the school’s winter break.
Perhaps the most unique feature of the location, and the one that makes it most recognizable to the students and alumni of Pali High, is the tunnel leading from the athletic fields. The Teen Wolf folks apparently like this location a lot using it in consecutive episodes.
They also shot the scene where Derek meets with Scott, Stiles, Lydia and Allison inside one of the school’s actual classrooms.
The scenes at the bank were done at 650 Spring Street in LA in what is now an event space known as The Majestic Halls. You can see where Allison entered the bank as well as that amazing main hall she wandered in to and the Bank Vault where Boyd and Cora spent 4 months.
Locations in Fireflies
The woods where most of this episode takes place are in one of a number of parks and other wooded areas the production used to piece together the new Beacon Hills Preserve.
The Pool where Lydia finds the body is at Pali High School and we see the school tunnel again later in this episode when Boyd and Cora are running toward the trap.
The exterior shot of Allison herding the bad betas into the school was shot outside Teen Wolf HQ.
The School Boiler Room in Fireflies is actually a ready-made set inside Willow Studios in Los Angeles. They offer a number of unique standing sets from prison cells to torture chambers. They’re always set up and allow a production to move in with very little prep time and at much cheaper rates than building the sets from scratch.
Locations in Unleashed
Unleashed happens mainly on the Teen Wolf set in Northridge, California since most of the action takes place at School and inside Derek’s loft.
Some of the outdoor locations, the running and finding of the body are likely the same ones used for the nighttime scenes in Fireflies.
Locations in Frayed
The bus ride portion of Frayed was a big long location shoot for the production.
They set up camp for several days in an area just south of Acton, California. All of the scenes on the bus and at the rest stop were filmed within about mile of each other along a stretch of Crown Valley Road in Soledad Canyon.
The big battle took place during a nearly 20 hour workday at an abandoned mall in Hawthorne, California.
Locations in Motel California
We expect most of Motel California to take place at a real motel in Glendale, California.
The Motel Glen Capri has a long history in movies and television – it is not known for a high suicide rate in real life.
The crew shot there overnight back in February to shoot mostly exteriors. Some of the interiors were apparently special built sets at Teen Wolf HQ.
Season 3B Filming in August
