CORRECTION

The video released by MTV on December 30 was widely reported by several news sources (Including Teen Wolf News) to be the “Cold Open” from Episode 511. Having now seen Episode 511 this is obviously not the case. Teen Wolf News regrets promulgating this false information.

Teen Wolf News spoke to Executive Producer Jeff Davis about the scene on Tuesday. “I was confused by the cold open thing too actually. I saw the news items and thought they were going to release the 511 cold open. The one they released is from 512.”

The video in question is from Damnatio Memoriae which will air on MTV on January 12 at 9pm.

The synopsis released by the network –

“Without the support of his pack, Scott confronts what the Dread Doctors’ deadly success means for Beacon Hills.”

Damnatio Memoriae

Teen Wolf’s next episode gets its name from a complex political maneuver popular in ancient Rome. Damnatio Memoriae was a practice by which current government administrations could erase all evidence of a past administration. Literally translated it means "condemnation of memory” and could even extend to the removal of the targeted person’s face from statues.

While it sounds like dramatic political intrigue, it was apparently used most often to take away property from an unpopular leader’s family and shift the balance of power in the Roman Senate.

Pack Clash

Speaking of unpopular leaders, The Last Chimera established that Scott’s Pack is in tatters after the Supermoon.

  • Liam is racked with guilt over his attack on Scott.
  • Stiles is still angry at Scott for taking Theo’s word over that of his best friend and is simultaneously flashing back to his mom’s funeral.
  • Malia just wants to get on with her search for her mom.
  • Scott can’t get his Alpha mojo working for more than a few seconds.

Over at Camp Theo, the newly-resurrected chimera pack seems to follow him blindly. Hayden questions why she’s following at one point and isn’t with the pack in glimpses of the future at Eichen House but, overall, his risen minions seem to have his back.

More Filming on Season 5

Teen Wolf cast and crew will return to their Northridge HQ in the coming weeks to complete filming on Season 5.

Executive Producer Jeff Davis tells Teen Wolf News that there was a fair bit left undone when principal photography ended on December 18. “More to do than we’d like!” he says of the upcoming work, “A few days of shooting actually, including a good bit of the climax of 520.”

Returning to set for additional footage or to reshoot certain scenes is not unusual and has become common place with Teen Wolf due to their ambitious schedule and cable network budget.

Season 6 Comes Together

If you’ve not watched this interview with Teen Wolf’s Jeff Davis, you should do so now. It is the best, most informative video about the show I’ve seen.

In the video, Davis again states that Dylan O’Brien is on board for Season 6 and addresses the apparent conflict between shooting for Teen Wolf and shooting for the next Maze Runner movie.

“We did always have an idea for Season 6 in the back of our minds. There were rumblings about it. We’ve been thinking about doing it two different ways, planning for what could be a series finale but also leaving things open for next season.
It actually wasn’t until I sat down with Dylan O’Brien and we talked about what Season 6 could be that we solidified things. Obviously we have to work around his movie schedule but you’ll see the story we’ve come up with. I think it’s going to make everyone pretty happy.”

While Maze Runner: The Death Cure is now slated to start filming in mid-March, Davis tells Teen Wolf News that they don’t yet have a firm start date for filming Teen Wolf. “No official start date for Season 6 but most likely around the end of February,” he said in an email on Tuesday.

O’Brien’s schedule will be adjusted in such a way that he will be able to appear in both projects.
