International Fan Snub?
The first official Teen Wolf contest for Season 5 is going on right now.
Artistic fans are encouraged to submit their ideas for a new supernatural creature. The one selected by producers will appear in an upcoming episode.

But be aware - only those 18 or older and living within the United States are eligible to win.
The geo-restrictions have riled some international fans.

With Teen Wolf Wikia’s large international readership, we see a number of complaints each year because many of the videos and other materials provided by Teen Wolf Official aren’t available to anyone outside the United States. Most of those restrictions are due to the fact that the folks who own the show want to sell the rights to view those things in other countries - everybody gots to get paid after all.
Contests are a very different situation. Running a sweepstakes worldwide is almost impossible since every single country has different laws governing such things.
- In France, for instance, any participants in your promotion can claim the cost of Internet or postage that they paid to enter. Which means if you have enough entries and they all want to be reimbursed for their internet use, you could bankrupt MTV. [1]
- In Russia they have a law that would make the current contest impossible because maintaining publicity rights in perpetuity is not possible in Russia. This means that the rights to use the user generated content (photos, drawings, etc.) collected in conjunction with the promotion would need to be negotiated for every single person who entered.
If MTV wanted to open up the contest to people all over the world, they would first have to research the law in every single country on earth to avoid getting into legal trouble. It's way too much work/money for MTV to even find out how to cover themselves, legally, in multiple countries.
Teen Wolf Returns to the Paley Center
For the first time in 3 years, Teen Wolf cast and creators are returning to The Paley Center for Media this winter.
The Paley Center hosted a premiere screening of Season 2 back in 2012 but this time they’ve invited Teen Wolf to be a part of PaleyFest 2015. This is a big deal in television circles because Paley hosts the country’s foremost public archive of television, radio and internet programming and only invites the best, most popular shows to screen.
Among those on hand this year will be Homeland, The Good Wife, Scandal, and Outlander.
The Teen Wolf Paley panel is set for Wednesday, March 11 at 7PM PDT. Yahoo will be live streaming the event and there will be an opportunity for you to submit questions via social media. We’ll have more details for you in Teen Wolf News as the date draws near.
Oscar for Hoechlin?
It seems our Tyler Hoechlin has hitched himself to a star. Tyler’s next feature film is director Richard Linklater’s That’s What I’m Talking About which is currently in postproduction and should hit our screens sometime this year.
Linklater’s last movie, Boyhood, is burning through Hollywood’s awards season. He’s already won Best Film and Best Director awards from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, Boston Society of Film Critics, New York Film Critics Circle, Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association, and New York Film Critics Online. He’s currently nominated for Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Screenplay at this year’s Academy Awards.
We have to wonder - could some of that gold rub off on Tyler Hoechlin’s next project?
TWITA is described as a “spiritual sequel” to Linklater’s earlier film Dazed and Confused which didn’t win any Oscars but starred some folks who did pick up a whole bunch of statues.
- Matthew McConaughey with an Oscar and a bunch of emmys -While McConaughey had been seen in films and on TV before, Dazed and Confused is recognized as his “breakthrough performance.”
- Multiple Academy Award winner Ben Affleck - He’d been bouncing around TV since he was a kid but really broke through with Linklater. Affleck’s next films were Mall Rats and Chasing Amy, standouts from the Kevin Smith oeuvre.
- Oscar Winner Renée Zellweger – Linklater cast her in her first movie.
Beyond those recognized by the Academy – Linklater also cast Parker Posey, Adam Goldberg, Joey Lauren Adams and Milla Jovovich for Dazed and Confused. While in 1993 this was a group of (for the most part) unknowns, today it would be what they call an “all-star cast.”
You can look at this a couple of ways - Linklater has a golden touch or he can spot nascent talent like no one else. Either way, he spotted something special in Tyler Hoechlin and I can’t wait to see what comes of that.
Young Derek's Big Flick
Ian Nelson has a movie opening this Friday.
Our Young Derek Hale actor will appear in The Boy Next Door and he'll be following in the footsteps of Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey. Ian plays Jennifer Lopez's son just as Posey did in Maid in Manhattan.
While he's only in this latest trailer for a second - we look forward to seeing more "Young Derek" on the silver screen this weekend.
