New Teen Wolf Canon
In addition to some kickass mother/daughter fight scenes, The Sword and the Spirit offered up some new canon for the Teen Wolf Universe.
The Desert Wolf[]
The Desert Wolf lived up to her reputation in her first confrontation with the daughter she never knew. Birthing Malia apparently cost Mommy Dearest much of her speed, strength and healing ability. To add insult to that injury, Talia Hale took the child away from her before she could even name her little bundle of fur.
Once reduced in power, DW picked up a gun and became a perfect shot.
Now Mommy is back and looking to reclaim her abilities by killing Malia. Deaton claims the bloodletting needs to be done on a full moon but he might have been stalling.
Liam[]
We have yet another tale of Liam’s violent past.
When he was at Devenford Prep, in addition to bashing his Lacrosse Coach’s car, he managed to beat up a kid so bad that he knocked out two teeth.
Forced to write an apology letter, Liam learned how hollow the words “I’m sorry” can be. He now feels it’s not enough just to apologize for trying to kill Scott. He says he needs to save his life to make amends. Scott says, with the way things are going, Liam will get his chance.
We also learned what the Dread Doctors were injecting into Liam while he was held captive. It was a wolfsbane solution to keep him weak and to dull his senses so he couldn’t find the lair again.
Jordan Parrish[]
Deputy Parrish has been fireproof a lot longer than we thought. Back in Afghanistan, Parrish was trying to diffuse an improvised explosive device when it blew up in his face.
He walked away with a few scratches and a lot less clothing but otherwise unharmed by the experience. He now knows this is thanks to his Hellhound nature.
Deucalion[]
Alpha Pack Leader Deucalion’s happy ending from Season 3 didn’t last.
Apparently sometime after he paid Braeden to rescue Derek from Mexico (More Bad Than Good), Deucalion’s restored sight failed him and he stopped feeling so thankful to the kids from Beacon Hills. He is blind once again and seems pretty pissed about it. He now, apparently, wants to claw out Scott’s eyes.
Meredith[]
Back when Meredith was just a teen Banshee in high school, things went horribly wrong.
Sitting in Chemistry class, she started hearing the screams of everybody dying all at once. As you might expect, this freaked her out massively. She tried to block out the sound with her hands but that didn’t work since the screaming was in her head.
In desperation she slapped her hands down on the desk and screamed herself. The force of that apparently blew up the classroom. The windows exploded and sent shards of glass into her classmates.
The school blamed it on a chemical explosion but Meredith says everyone knew she was the cause.
The Beast of Gevaudan[]
Real world accounts of the Beast of Gevaudan described it as a giant red-furred wolf or a cloven-hoofed panther the size of a horse.
Gerard apparently learned different at his grandpappy Argent’s knee. In his account the Beast was different. It was said that the body was oil-black, solid but shapeless at the same time. It was like a shadow pretending to be real.
Posey Sundancing
Tyler Posey visited one of the Meccas of independent film this week. He travelled to Park City, Utah for the Sundance Film Festival.
Posey plays in auteur Kevin Smith’s new film “Yoga Hosers” which opened at the festival on Sunday. Fellow MTV star Austin Butler (The Shannara Chronicles) is also in the movie and seemed to be Posey’s constant companion at festival events. The actors play a pair of Canadian Satanists out to impress the ladies.

The movie is getting destroyed by critics who can’t find the humor in Smith’s comedy/horror flick but Smith and the cast don’t seem to care one bit.
Kevin Smith Doesn’t Know Why Actors Do His Movies “There’s No Money, There’s No Future”
Posey took his friend (and Teen Wolf actor) Tyler Schnabel with him to Utah for the event. He offered up some behind the scenes shots.
Posey had this to say at the end of the weekend, “My first Sundance experience literally couldn’t have gone better. Surrounded by the best people I know. The love is so strong with this group. Proud to be a yoga hoser.”
A US release theatrical release for Yoga Hosers has yet to be announced. There is no distributor currently listed for the film.

Amplification: Rescuing Lydia
With the Sword and the Spirit, Teen Wolf Season 5 has finally caught up to where it began with Creatures of the Night.
Up until now we’ve been seeing the story in a series of flashbacks through Lydia’s hole-in-the-head therapy session with Doctor Valack.
This was also the episode where Stiles and Friends “Oceans 11’d” the hell out of Eichen House, stealing an access card and the hospital’s security log. Now, with blueprints and (for some reason) black and white photos in hand, they are ready to go pick up Lydia.
New episodes of Teen Wolf are available via iTunes, Amazon Video and the MTV App. You can watch Amplification live on Tuesday February 2 at 9PM on MTV.
Editorial: Disturbing and in Bad Taste
I don’t watch the After After Show on MTV.com so I didn’t see this until the Teen Wolf fandom started rumbling about it.
I'm not usually affected by violent images but found the following video extremely disturbing. I also believe it to be in bad taste due to the sensitive nature of the events it mocks. Its greatest sin, as far as I'm concerned, is that the bit just isn't funny.
Trigger Warning: This video includes a very realistic simulation of a hand gun shooting. It could be disturbing to the victims of domestic violence or anyone who’s faced a similar situation.
