Kickstarting Ian Bohen
Over just two days, Teen Wolf actor Ian Bohen brought together enough money from enough different people to make a short movie.
Bohen is the latest Actor/would-be Writer/would-be Director to use the Kickstarter online fundraising platform to finance a passion project. His short film is called The Tow. “(the movie) is an idea that I'd been mulling over for a while but never really knew what to do with,” Bohen explains. “After managing to get the scrambled thoughts in my head onto paper, I realized I had a script that I was very proud of."
The film is set in an alley in downtown Los Angeles and will star Teen Wolf’s JR Bourne and Paul Rae.
Note: As much fun as it was to hear Ian Bohen say my name on his Kickstarter video, I am not in the movie. That Paul Rae (I spell my name “Rea” BTW) is one of those working actors who appear in a lot of shows every season but you never know their names… well, I know HIS name because it’s pronounced the same as mine but you get what I mean.
Bohen first tweeted about the project on Friday afternoon and by Sunday morning he reached his goal of $15,000. By Tuesday, the total reached more than 180 donors with more than $17,000 raised.
Backers will receive gifts for their generosity. Some will get private screenings with Bohen in various cities around the world (coinciding with some of his Teen Wolf convention trips) while others get Skype calls from the actor. Signed scripts and digital copies of the finished film are also on offer.
He admits the financing is just a small part of bringing his vision to the screen. Actually producing a film, even a short one, takes a lot of planning and coordinating, “The biggest challenge ahead in the completion of this project is the coordination of each and every cog in our movie wheel so that everything lines up at the exact moment we need it to.”
If he can get the permit for the location and if he can get all those cogs clicking in order, Bohen hopes to have The Tow ready for audiences by June.
OH PIT CREW!
This week saw the return of drag to Teen Wolf. Those of us who enjoyed that time Scott and Stiles spent an evening at Jungle back in Season 2 can look forward to at least one drag performer in Beacon Hills for Season 5.
Ms. Cake Moss was on set for a club/party scene filmed at Teen Wolf Headquarters in Northridge, California this week.
Moss is familiar to drag fans in Los Angeles. The Ohio native began performing in 2013 at Evita, Micky's, Hamburger Mary's, and The Abbey (a favorite spot for Teen Wolf Production Manager Sam Childs). While it's unclear just how "featured" her role will be, it's just nice to have a bit more diversity on set.
Also on set for the club/party scene, we saw Los Angeles Model/Actor Jared North and Brazilian acrobat/Cirque Du Soleil performer Gabriel Christo. We've not yet identified the "trois" of this Ménage. If you know, tell us in the comments.
They shot a massive scene including dozens of extras. It is the largest party we've seen on the Teen Wolf set since Season 4's The Dark Moon and the bonfire scene during Perishable.
What Colton Said
Colton Haynes says we’ve been misled about his exit from Teen Wolf in October 2012.
Speaking to Schön! Magazine (after pulling an all-nighter in New York) Haynes said, “There was a level of unprofessionalism that went down that I just wasn’t comfortable with. It was tough when other parties went on ‘convention tours’ to announce false news, but I know the truth, they know the truth. It sucked. I felt like I was ripped away from this cast I had grown up with, who had become my family. I have this issue where I’m a rug. In the past, I’ve kind of nodded and said yes a lot and went about my business. I’m done being that.”
We first got word of Haynes’ exit via twitter - @ColtonLHaynes - These past few yrs have been the best of my life. I'm sad that this chapter has ended, but excited for a new one to begin. Thx for the love
Sources said at the time that Haynes' Jackson character wasn’t in the first five scripts of Season 3 and that would only appear in 12 of the 24 episodes.
Jeff Davis (back when he still had a twitter) denied knowing anything about the situation - @JeffDavis75 - Honestly, just as shocked and confused as you guys.
Then MTV came out with the “Official Statement” about Haynes saying there is “absolutely no truth that Colton is being pushed out or that he, or any cast member, is being replaced. We love Colton and look forward to his returning with the entire cast for season 3 of Teen Wolf.”
They doubled down on that line in a broader statement after it became clear Haynes wasn’t coming back – “We were just as surprised and disappointed as Colton’s fans to read out about his decision to leave the show. We want him to return for a third season, as he has for the past two, but if this is his decision we respect that and will wish him all the best. We are excited for what Jeff Davis and producers have in store for our incredible cast in the upcoming third season.”
As for the “convention tour” Haynes spoke of, we can’t be sure but Jeff Davis did appear at New York Comic Con in the days after Haynes announced his exit. Jeff said – “I spoke with Colton last night and he confirmed to me that he’s not coming back this season. I love Colton. I think he’s a great guy. He’s a great friend of mine. We’re going to miss him and I wish he was coming back but I also have to respect that he feels like he’s ready to move on. I think someone as talented as Colton is not going to have any trouble finding work. So, if this is really his final decision then we’ll respect it. I told him last night that if he decides to come back he knows there’s a great entrance for him.”
The spin on his exit from “Teen Wolf Official” sources has always been along those lines butPerez Hilton reported early on that the situation was a bit messier than the PTB let on –
"Colton wants to stay on the show badly. Apparently, [show creator] Jeff Davis is being irrational…"
"He wanted to cut his episodes to 12 instead of 24."
"And with that, NOT have him in the first 6 or the last 6 eps which makes NO sense unless you don’t like someone. It is like death and during those 12 he is not in, they wouldn't let him do a movie or anything else."
The new Schön! Magazine interview is the first time Haynes said anything negative about the show and its creators directly. He’s mostly remained quite or talked about how much he loved his experience while he was working on Teen Wolf.
Earlier this year, Jeff (while speaking in France) said that one or more of the cast members who left Teen Wolf might return for Season 5. Much of the speculation about a return swirled around Haynes but this new report makes that seem unlikely.
Jeff to Let the Right One In
While Teen Wolf Executive Producer Jeff Davis has sworn off vampires for his MTV show, he is apparently not opposed to bloodsuckers in general.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Davis is Co-Executive Producer on A&E’s television adaptation of Let the Right One In. The Swedish book, turned into an award-winning movie, is about a bullied boy who befriends a young girl who turns out to be a vampire.
The show is written by Actor Brandon Boyce who Teen Wolf fans will recognize as Beacon Hills’ most unlucky surgeon. Boyce is also a Co-Executive Producer for the new show.
While he had a small role on Teen Wolf, Boyce is well known as a screenwriter with produced screenplays for Apt Pupil and Wicker Park as well as a recently published novel, Here by the Bloods, with Kensington Publishing.
The new vampire show is just now in the development stage.
