MTV Kills Teen Wolf to promote SCREAM

You may have seen the images of Teen Wolf Tyler Posey with a knife to the head or Holland Roden with an axe in her chest.

The shots are part of a promotional video called Killer Party from MTV. The video was shot by the team that normally does the teases for Teen Wolf each season, Director Patrick Cummings and Producer Adam Palmer.

The network is trying to generate buzz in advance of the SCREAM debut next month and called upon Posey, Roden and a host of other actors from MTV shows to get bloody for the cause.

The video includes Ashley Rickards (Awkward), Rita Volk (Faking It), Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio (The Challenge), Katie Stevens (Faking It), Molly Tarlov (Awkward), Chelsea “Chanel West Coast” Dudley (Ridiculousness), Sterling "Steelo" Brim (Ridiculousness), Anna Jocoby-Heron (Finding Carter), Leroy Garrett  (The Challenge), Greer Grammer (Awkward) and Alex Saxon (Finding Carter).

The melancholy soundtrack is an old song from now defunct Los Angeles-area band Rilo Kiley. The song, "It Just Is" was featured on the group’s 2004 album More Adventurous. Jenny Lewis does the vocal track.

MTV is using a two-night Teen Wolf premiere to support the SCREAM debut. Teen Wolf Season 5 Episode 1 will air on Monday June 29 at 10PM with Episode 2 airing the next night at 9PM. SCREAM will join the network line-up Tuesday night June 30 at 10PM.

NO PROMO FOR YOU!

That big SCREAM production pretty much guarantees that we won’t be seeing the kind of creepy/sexy/cool promotional video we usually get for Teen Wolf each season.

These promos are major productions as Teen Wolf News showed you in our exclusive Behind the Scenes video last season. There is no sign that the MTV team has shot a new Teen Wolf tease video so far and no indication that they plan to. It looks like, at this point, they’ll make do with traditional generic teases featuring footage from the show.

TWNews has also learned that the annual creepy/sexy/cool studio photo shoot with the cast likely won’t be happening this year.

Why is MTV not cranking up the promotions machine for Teen Wolf Season 5? We don’t have an answer but it seems all the energy at the network right now is focused squarely on SCREAM.

Who Is Michael Johnston?

We’ve seen him around the Teen Wolf set a couple of times but Michael Johnston doesn’t really have much in the way of professional credits. He certainly doesn’t have enough career yet to warrant a profile from OUT magazine and yet - there he is in OUT’s Hotlist section this week.

We learn that Johnston is from “the Carolinas,” graduated from high school one year early, studied at Second City in Chicago and then moved to California.

He also has a few interesting things to say about how Teen Wolf treats relationships on the show.

“When I see relationships on Teen Wolf, they’re all treated the same,” says Johnston, 19. “They don’t make a big deal over a gay relationship in the show — it’s just like any other relationship, which is really close to what life is like.”

He doesn't come right out and say who he'll be playing on Teen Wolf but he does offer some hints about his role in the upcoming season.

Here are a couple of the BTS shots we’ve seen of the young actor so far during filming for Season 5.

Next Big Star? Bello Mag Says it’s Shelley!

Bello Magazine says Teen Wolf’s Shelley Hennig has “the makings to be the next big star.” The crowning came at the end of the magazine’s puffy profile piece on the actor.

Specifically, writer Scott Youngbauer was talking about her skills during the final minutes of the horror movie Unfriended - “The final, nailbiting ten minutes of the movie demonstrate what the actress is capable of.” Grammar choices aside, Youngbauer’s piece did offer a bit of new information about how the Teen Wolf coyote views her current role and the future of her career.

“I got to do my own stunts the other night, which was pretty bad ass,” she tells me while on break from shooting the fifth season. “I laugh the entire time. It’s such a great show with a lot of action, humor, and scary shit.” She laughs. “It’s the best of both worlds. I’m really lucky they accepted me into the Teen Wolf family.” On her character of Malia, she tells me, “I love how honest she is. It’s nice to be playing such a strong female role that’s also comedic.”
“I think action is an area I could excel in.” Other kinds of roles she’d like to be doing? “A good rom-com to off-set these horror films I’ve been doing.”

The full report includes a list of Shelley’s favorite TV shows and music. It’s available online at www.bellomag.com.
