No Confirmed Debut Date[]

Despite what you have heard, there is no official debut date for the final Teen Wolf Episodes. Teen Wolf News talked to a source close to the network who suggests that even the MTV decision makers in the New York HQ have not firmly settled on an airdate for episode 611. “I’ve heard a date, but it has not been confirmed,” said our source who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss internal network communications.

The insider also hinted at some degree of frustration with how MTV is handling the last season of their only remaining scripted drama, “I wish I was able to tell you.”

While a number of internet sources, fan social accounts, and others keep throwing out dates for new episodes, there is little in the way of evidence to back them up. The only genuine hint we have is the Teen Wolf Season 6A DVD release slated for mid-July. Traditionally, new episodes begin a few weeks after the previous season’s DVD drops.

If the tradition holds, Teen Wolf episode 611 will debut in late July or early August.

MTV Reality Gamble Fails First Big Test[]

MTV leadership believed the revival of a turn-of-the-century reality show would be its key to reviving sagging viewership numbers. They were mostly wrong. The return of Fear Factor drew fewer than a million people to the network. That paltry number represents a huge boost for MTV’s ratings – but only because MTV’s ratings suck so hard already.

The show, hosted by Ludacris, sees “contestants” perform increasingly gross or fear-inducing stunts. It was a modest hit for NBC from 2001 to 2006 and from 2011 to 2012. Its average audience was estimated at about eight million viewers back when most people still watched TV on a TV as it aired.

Across all networks, the number of people watching TV live is at an all-time low. One of the reasons for MTV’s new focus is that reality programming is still pretty good at attracting live viewers. In a world of cord-cutters and cord-nevers, getting nearly a million people to watch your cable show as it airs now rates as a great accomplishment and MTV was quick to promote Fear Factor’s performance.

MTV’s Fear Factor hosted by Ludacris delivered the network’s highest rated series premiere in two years (P18-34) with the successful refresh of the break-through show.  Up a whopping +164% vs. time period average, Fear Factor delivered a .83 (P18-34) rating and nearly one million total viewers.   It was also Tuesday’s #1 unscripted show on cable (P18-34) and helped deliver MTV’s best Tuesday in a year and a half.

This type of thinking may allow the network suits to sleep better at night, but the spin falls apart when you consider that MTV’s aging Teen Mom franchise more than doubles those numbers on the regular and even flops like SCREAM drew a million debut viewers before dropping precipitously. Fear Factor lost about 25% of its audience on its second outing this week, pushing it squarely into the realm of “average” for the network.

While Fear Factor ratings suck a tiny bit less than the new normal, it will not be the reality-focused salvation the network hoped.

Cody at the Beach House[]

Continuing to tap nostalgia in an effort to find an audience, MTV is bringing back a 25-year-old staple of summer. The MTV Beach House opens up this week in the Loveladies section of Long Beach Township in Long Beach Island with Teen Wolf Cody Christian as host.

Whereas the original program - featuring hosts, guests and a bevy of teen extras in swimwear - was wrapped around music videos, the new version will land in the midst of MTV’s regular programming. It will also show up across multiple platforms and other VIACOM networks’ social channels including Spike and Comedy Central.

Having Teen Wolf’s cagey chimera in-house might be an excellent opportunity to promote the network’s only remaining scripted drama before its final run, but, without a debut date or even a trailer, it is unclear what Christian would use for promotion purposes.

The whole thing kicks off with the MTV Beach House Festival concert in the township’s Bayview Park on June 8 featuring performances by MisterWives among others.

Posey Opens Up, Seeks Professional Help[]

Tyler Posey’s struggle with mental health made headlines this week as the Teen Wolf star laid bare his journey through depression.

The actor told PageSix he sought help after some life altering events - his mother’s death and ending his engagement with Seana Gorlick - two and a half years ago.

“Right now I’m somewhat OK and mentally stable that I don’t need to be in it a couple of times a week whereas, other phases of my life, I felt like I needed it at least a couple of times a week. Therapy just kind of gives you resources to manage your life outside of therapy, so you can kind of wean yourself off of it a little bit.”
“The best thing about it is getting it all out there. Whatever you have on your chest it just feels really good to talk to somebody who you have no ties to… so I think therapy is great. I think everyone should try it out.”

Saintgnue Trial Set for September[]

For a fourth time, Judge Michelle Leavitt set a new trial date this week for Teen Wolf Cody Saintgnue’s lawsuit against a Las Vegas nightclub and casino workers. After more than two years of delays, the actor now waits until September for his day in court.

Saintgnue accused the 1OAK nightclub and employees of the Mirage Casino of saddling him with a bogus bill and roughing him up when he refused to pay for items he did not purchase. You can see a portion of the assault on surveillance video.

Judge Leavitt seems to be in no hurry to hear the case, granting delay after delay since Saintgnue filed suit in 2015. The new trial date is for September 5.

100,000 App Downloads[]

Teen Wolf Wikia reached a mention-worthy milestone last month. So far, folks downloaded the Teen Wolf Wikia app more than 100,000 times from the Google Play Store.

That does not necessarily mean we have 100,000 users - think about how often you download and then immediately discard apps – but our rating remains in above 4.5 stars suggesting most who are using it enjoy what we have built here.

Currently, Teen Wolf Wikia is not available for iPhone due to some vague, yet-to-be-fully-explained legal dispute between our corporate overlord Fandom and the folks at VIACOM. Get the Android version at Google Play.
